A professionally oriented virtual community is geared toward professionals and/or discusses subjects from a professional environment. Professionals participate in this type of community in order to contact and exchange information with people outside of their own team or organisation who require similar information to carry out their (professional) duties . In these communities, learning is intentionally generated in order to achieve professional development goals (although non-professionally related learning might be a side effect). While professionals share their knowledge in the community or start creating knowledge collaboratively, the line between collaborative work and collaborative learning is vague.
